Segmenting and Target Market

Jordan's target market was slightly different when they first came out. There target market was men ages 18 to 35 when first released. They were bought mainly to play basketball with, and also like I present day for style. However, in present day no one boys Jordan's to play basketball on them because they are too expensive to ruin. The market in my company is very strong because Jordan's consumers have a real willingness to buy. A great example of that is having many people pre order their Jordan's and also camp in line until the Jordan's come out. Jordan's marketing segment contains many consumers, especially teenagers, who have many of the same wants when it comes to Jordan's. I say this because teens pretty much want every Jordan that comes out.
Satisfiers play a big roll in Jordan's consumers being that many consumers pre order their Jordan's and make sure they get the best price for the Jordan's and even take advantage of deals that the website including free shipping and other deals.
As of now when it comes to repositioning, Nike signing Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, and allowing them to be a part of the Jordan line, as opposed to players like Lebron James who are signed with Nike and has his own line which isn't under Jordan's.

Developing and Managing Products

Jordan's have always come out with new colors of sneakers, however they aren't brand new sneakers that are new toyhe world. In fact they are mostly re release of older Jordan's that customers love. They usually come out with new colors but not so much as new designs.
What is brand new with Jordan's are the new chris Paul 6s. They are brand new to the world and it something new to Jordan's. It amazed me how Nike chose to build a new type of sneaker, under the Jordan brand. They took the NBA star Chris Paul and put his shoe under Jordan's instead of regular Nike, so they could increase sales. They also do this with the NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony. This is an example of test marketing because its a limited introduction unless the sneaker becomes really successfull and self a lot. It's also an exams of commercialization be sure this was a decision of how to market the new sneakers. The Chris Paul's 6s are in the growth stage where the company is seeing and increasing rate of consumers who want this sneaker. I ask myself and I would ask you, Do you think that the Chris Paul sneaker would make as much sales if they weren't under Jordan's?

Developing and Managing Products

Integrated Marketing Communications

When I read this chapter it confused me because we've posted about most of the things in this chapter such as promotion. As I said before Jordan promotes his product and also the company advertises all over the world.
My company's promotional strategy is based on advertising and sales promotion, because everyone wants to get the best price that the can get because Jordan's are very expensive. That's why they promote with deals and other sales over on future purchases, they know the consumer will come back and actually take advantage of their discount because Jordan's drop all year round. And it's competitive advantage is that they make more money the  sneakers that are modern, even though most of their sneakers came out twenty years ago. Consumers purchase Jordan's at one price, so that they can sell it for even  ore money then they paid for it, and that's a perfect exams of personal selling. I know people who make a living off of selling the Jordan collection that they have accumulated over the past years.

Product Concepts

Air Jordan's have many concepts when it some to creating a sneaker. However most if their sneakers get re- released, and people still wait on lines to buy a pair. It's a perfect example of consumer product because it satisfies the consumerss personal wants after they wait on line for so long. A great example of specialty product is the Olive nines. People search everywhere for them and can't find them but now that they have been re released, lots of people already waiting for them to come out. It's also because they won't be released again for maybe another twelve years. The product mix is all of the number Jordan's that have come out which is a very large varity of different color and types of  sneakers. Branding is pretty easy to explain because my Jordan sold the rights to use his name and that is what the franchise is today. Individual branding on the knee hand would be naming all the sneakers by number. And of course Air Jordan's is trademarked to Nike.

This represents the first Jordan's to release, however they show u all the other Jordan's. It's the product mix.

Sales Promotion and Personal Selling

Sales Promotion is essential to comsumers that purchase Jordans online. Jordans are retailed at about $150 to $200 depending on the size. So when a consumer wants to purchase Jordans online they like to be offered deals, such as free shipping and ten to fifteen percent off purchases. In fact on the website jordans are promoted with deals like make a purchase over $150 and get free shipping or $20 off your next purchas. Once Jordans are sold out in retail stores, their price goes up in value because the supply just decreased. Thats why alot of people, even people I know, purchase Jordans when they are realeased and sometimes before they are even released just to sell them for double or triple the price. The price for a pair of jordans on craigs list cost more than 300 dollars. My neighbor josh buys two pairs of every jordan that he wants just to sell a pair for about $100 profit for himself. People make a living off of seling their Jordans because they like to sell Jordans that havent been released for years and wont be re-released for a while. Small Business owners start small businesses by selling Jordans, and thats personal selling because the owner would get most of the profit. However most of the personal selling of my compnay happens online and from person to person. I have actually sold several pairs jordans that i have bought because i paid so mcuh for them and i was so afraid to mess them up so i kept them brand new. I had a pair of Olypmic 7s that bought for $120 and wore them twice because i didnt want them to get messed up and eventually I gew out of them and sold them for $200. Overall sales promotion is key when it somes to promoting and selling a new pair of Jordans. Also theirs a couple of ways you could look at personal selling when it comes to Jordans.
ONE OF THE MANY PAIRS I SOLD.

Advertising and Public Relations

When it comes to advertisng Air Jordans in current day, the internet is where they advertisng upcoming releases and new jordans that come out. In other countries such as china, billboards ands banners are mainly how Jordan is advetised. When it comes to adevertisng its surprisng that it isnt hard to advertise a sneaker that came out about twenty ago. Most sneaker companys might find that extremely hard to acomplish but the Jordan franchise makes their advertising make the sneaker become more highly anticipated. Public Relations is similar to advertising for Jordans, such as Jordans being advertised through word of mouth and friends talking about what new jordans their gonna get for the holidays. Jordans always have customers lined up for at least two days for a pair of jordans to come out. They camp out in front of stores. I personally find out Jordans are coming out through word of mouth because my friends always tell me what jordans are coming out. However now that i chose this company I know most of the release dates of Jordans coming out now and in the spring. Public relations and advertising differ because alot of people who hear that jordans are coming out, really dont see the advertising of that sneaker. In China Jordans are more advertised because Jordans are made in china so its easier for them to sell them at a wholesale price.

Retail

Jordans have been sold in Nike retailers all around the world. Foot Locker is a big retailer that sells jordans. Jordans sell for at least $200 depending on the size, because they get more expensive the bigger the foot. the price also depends on whether the jordans are a new release or re-release. i visited the Nike factory in and outlet mall in long island for this blog post. The retailer i went to sold over 20 different pairs of jordans with prices ranging from 60-300 dollars. I asked a worker there, about how many pairs of jordans do you guys sell here. He gave me a ball park number of about 1500 pairs a month. He also said that even though jordans are Nike sneakers, they dont come in with regular nike sneakers. they are shipped in a truck with strickly air jordans in the truck. They get 2 full trucks of jordans everytime they get a shipment. I also visited the Foot Locker in that same outlet and so that i could compare the prices. not only was the Nike Factory less expensive for a pair if jordans, but they had alot more variety for people to choice from. I learned that retail price for a pair a jordans when they first came out in the late 80's was $65, and as i stated before retail price now for jordans are $200. Differebt retailers charge different prices for jordans. for instance, Nike Town and flight club sell their jordans for as much as they can. Retail price in flight club for jordans are $300. Overall, Jdans are pretty expensive now and the best retailer to go to for Jordans, from my experiemce, is the Nike Factory.

Customer Decsion Making

When Micheal Jordan used to wear his own sneakers to play in the NBA games, it wasn't only to promote his sneaker, but it was to enhance his playing skills. Therefore, when consumers went to purchase their Jordan's, a descion had to be made as to what part of your game you want to step up while playing basketball. Back then the sneakers used to be designed to be lighter and more comfortable for the player. However, now consumer descion making really doesn't have anything to do with the game of basketball. Jordan's are purchased for style and collection in present day.any Jordan's that come out now are the same as the sneakers that we're released in the 90's. So I think now part of the consumers descion making goes into whether they want the same sneaker they had before or maybe the new fusion Jordan's, which are new Jordan's that are being released that includes Jordan's and Nike sneakers fused together. Consumers also have to decside whether they want to pay a couple hundred dollars for a sneaker that came out over 20 years ago.

Jordan's Marketing Enviornment

Jordan has a very successful marketing enviornment. Jordan's are sold all over the world and are worn by millions of people daily. Since Jordan's started back on 1985 they have never went out of style and are still in fashion, and not so much as function which is why the sneaker was made for. Jordan's are sold in so many different stores; such as Foot Locker, Nike Town, and Flight Club.no don't believe that Jordan's have really been affected by this recession. When a pair of Jordan's are going to be released, thousands of people line up in multiple stores, and even camp out to buy Jordan's. Jordans make up about 10 to 15% of Nike sales.Jordan has made a legacy with his sneakers that will live on for years to come.

Strategic planning for Jordan's

Micheal Jodan has created a franchise with his sneakers and is known all over the world. After a great rookie season Jordan was offered a contract with Nike, and since then has brought in alot of money to the company.  In 1985 Jordan became the owner of a new line of sneakers which changed basketball sneakers forever. Before Jordan's were launched there were only white basketball sneakers, so there was alot of planning going into the sneakers. Not only did Jordan design his sneakers to enhance performance and for comfort, but he wore his own sneaker while he played throughout his career. Since he designed his sneakers for his own comfort and as he said it helped him perform better, it gives Jordans a special significants to every sneaker. In present day the planning is different for Jordan's because now there bought for style, not so much for basketball anymore. However Jordan's from back in the day are re-released and are still bought all over te world and people wait on lines for days to get a pair.
